TB or not TB, that is the succession: The Mid-Tudor Crisis, 1547-1558

About the Committee:

After the death of King Henry VIII, Edward VI takes the throne at only nine years old and is determined to bring England into a new era of peace and progress. The only problem is that his tuberculosis diagnosis gives his reign a decided expiration date. Additionally, not everyone is as convinced of his efforts to move away from Catholicism and enact Protestant policies, especially Mary Tudor. Will this council succeed in bringing about a Golden Age for Tudor England, or will they jeopardize the success of this regime, both domestically and internationally?

Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Ma— oops! We’d better not jinx ourselves…

A LETTER FROM THE DaiS:

Good morrow, delegate!

What cheer for the days whereupon we will hold our conference and, with luck, from hence good feelings are surely to begin and to endure! Herein we list our names and those things about us most pretitant or odd. Have faith, for it is with honor and diligence that we serve.

Hi, my name is Avni Rao and I am excited to be one of your co-directors this year for TB or not TB, that is the succession: The Mid-Tudor Crisis! I am a sophomore majoring in Environmental Engineering focusing on the intersection of science, sustainability, and policy. I’ve been MUN-ing for a very long time, so I’m stoked to travel back in time during this committee with all of you. Outside of school I am on our school’s competitive Raas-Garba dance team, am a member of BLUElab (project team), and do sustainability work for Michigan’s Student Life Office. In my free time I also enjoy reading, crocheting, and watching British murder mystery shows. Feel free to reach out at avnirao@umich.edu with any questions about the committee or otherwise.

Hey everyone! I’m Neha, and I’m going to be one of your co-directors for this committee. I’m a sophomore majoring in Business Administration and Asian Studies, with a minor in UX design. You can talk to me about anything related to those three topics, I’d be happy to chat! Apart from academic endeavors, I love food and cooking, hanging out with my dog, skincare, and pop culture gossip. I absolutely love MUN, and I am so excited to be directing this year– it’s something I’ve wanted to do since my first time at MUNUM! If needed, you may also reach out to me at nehagndl@umich.edu for questions!

Hello! I am Drew Whitlow. I will be your assistant director for MUNUM XXXIX. I am a sophomore studying psychology at our College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. It’s a wonderful time. I’ve been involved in Model UN in several ways throughout high school and, now, in college—as a bored younger sibling waiting for a ride home, as a delegate, as a leader in my school’s club, and as a staffer. This will be my second year with MUNUM, after staffing the International Press Corps last January. I hope that my directors and I can use our experience, time, and resources to create a fun and memorable conference for you.

We are so excited to see how debate unfolds! Please feel free to reach out regarding any questions about our committee or life at U of M.

Regards to thee,

Avni, Neha, and Drew
